Otzi Alpine Marathon - Rules and Regulations 2010
(We reserve the right to make any changes considered necessary)
 

A) GENERAL DETAILS REGARDING THE MARATHON

1.) The Organisers:
The event is organised by the Schnals Amateur Club Ötzi-Alpin Marathon together with the Tourist Authority Offices of Naturns and Schnalstal and the Schnalstal Glacier Cable Car Company.

2.) Conditions regarding Participants
Any athlete, male or female, who has reached the age of 18 years by 18th. April 2009 is eligible to take part in the event. All participants must be in good physical condition and fit enough to compete in such a strenuous event according to generally accepted international requirements. Athletes who are not regular registered members of a sports club must hand in a doctor's certificate when the start numbers are handed out as proof that they are fit enough to enter the event. Athletes who do not fulfil these conditions, will not be allowed to take part in the marathon.

3.) Event details - date, time, start and finish
The event is scheduled for Sunday 18th. April 2010 to begin the centre of Naturns (554mt.) with two different starting times, one for individual athletes at 9.00a.m. and the other for teams comprised of three single athletes at 10.00a.m. The finishing line of the event is at Grawand near the mountain station of the Glacier Cable Car at 3,212 metres above sea-level (please see race

4.) Time Limit
The time limit for completing the marathon is as follows - 6 hours for male athletes, 6.5 hours for ladies. Both individual athletes and team members with times of more than 2 hours at the petrol station check-point at Karthaus, 2 hours 30 min. at Unser Frau, 4 hours at Kurzras and 5 hours at the Teufelsegghütte or a total time of 6 hours for male athletes and 6.5 hours for ladies when they arrive the Grawand will be automatically excluded from the event and their names will not appear on the final results lists. Staff will collect their starting numbers at the various check-points at which they are disqualified.

5.) Categories
Individual athletes - male and female to 40 years of age and male only over 40.
Three member relay teams - male and female to total max. 120 years and male only over 120 years.
Three member teams can either be single sex only or mixed male and female Mixed-sex teams will be classed together with all male teams.
Please note - each of the three athletes of a team can take part in one relay section only.

6.) Prize Money
The event comprises a total of 8.500 Euro prize money, less tax (please see the relevant table regarding prizes).

7.) Starting Numbers
Starting numbers will be given out on Saturday 17th., April 2010 from 4.00pm to 7.00pm and on Sunday 18th. April 2010 from 7.00am to 9.15am at the Race Office in the Naturns Village Hall. All athletes must show a bank transfer document when they get their start number to prove they have paid the event inscription fee and have a valid medical certificate to show they are fit enough to take part in the event. Starting numbers will not be given to anyone other than authorised participants of the event.

8.) Prize Giving Ceremony and Presentation of Winners
The ceremony will take place at the end of the event in the village square of Kurzras at approx. 4.30pm.

9.) Publication of the Event Results
Comprehensive results lists will be published in the local press and on Internet.

10.) Timekeeping
The company DATASPORT is responsible for timekeeping. A chip system (transponder) will be used.


B) ENROLMENT

1) How to do?
Participants may enrol online, through a web link for DATASPORT we provide on our webpage or by filling in the marathon enrolment form, which the organisers will send you on request by post or via fax. (Please note - teams must register completely on the form!)

Until the organisers haven’t received both your enrolment form and the enrolment fee, your name will not be included in the list of participants. The enrolment fees paid by athletes who withdraw from the event will not be refunded under any circumstances. Through DATASPORT you can sign for an insurance of rescission.
Replacements of athletes who have already enrolled in the team event will be accepted up to the final date for the acceptance of enrolment. Athletes forced to withdraw from the event because of ill health or an accident must present a doctor's certificate to the effect. Otherwise, the whole team will be disqualified and have no right to refund of their enrolment fees.

2.) Enrolment fee and payment:
Fee for single competition: Euro 70,00
Fee for team competition: Euro 160,00
The enrolment fee includes a deposit of Euro 10,00 for single and of Euro 10,00 for teams for the transponder (chip). The deposit will be returned (paid back) after 2.00pm at Maso Corto, Platzl.


The payment has to be made by April 10th 2010 by credit card online to DATASPORT or through a bank transfer to our bank account (details below). We cannot accept payment at a later date.

3.) Cancellation:
Generally the paid registration fee is not refundable. In case of withdrawal the registration fee will be credited to next year’s event. Cancellation of registrations must be done in writing, attached with a medical certificate and so communicated to the organizer latest by 10th of April 2010.
No refund of the entry fee will be granted in case of reduction of the distances or partial cancellation of the competition.

DATASPORT offers the possibility to add a cancellation-insurance to the online registration. The insurance will refund the paid registration fee in case of withdrawal. You can find more information at the online registration site.

4.) Last date for enrolment
Enrolment forms must be received before 10th. April 2010. We cannot accept late enrolment.

C) ALL ATHLETES MUST RESPECT THESE TERMS AND CONDITIONS

1.) Requirements regarding material and equipment

• Mountain Bike Section
- This section is for mountain bikes only.
- The organisers do not supply mountain bikes for the event.
- Athletes must use the same bike to cover the entire mountain bike section Tyres must have a min. 26 x 1.6 profile. Athletes risk being disqualified if they do not pass the requirements set by the various control points along the course - see course description.
- All athletes must wear an approved bike helmet and keep the chin strap done up at all times.

• Running
- Athletes must wear shoes suitable for Alpine running events - see description of route.
- Athletes are not allowed to use sticks.
- Please carry bad weather clothing for use if necessary.

• Ski Tour
- participants must use approved tour skis with steel edges and tour ski bindings as well as ski tour boots suitable for such events. Telemark and other similar equipment will not be allowed.
- Min. length of tour skis for male athletes -160 cm. Min. length for female participants - 150 cm.
- Participants must finish their heat alone. They cannot hand over to another athlete.
- Athletes may choose whatever ski skins they prefer and use ice irons.

PLEASE NOTE the valley run is closed during the event - athletes must use the cable-car and calculate how much time they need to get down to the valley.

2) General Competition Rules and Regulations
Competitors in the mountain bike section will only be allowed to use the right-hand side of the main road as the left side is still closed to traffic.
• Athletes must ensure that their start numbers are clearly visible at all times. We would remind them to take care of their clothing when they hand their start number over to other team members at the change-over areas for the relay event.
• Athletes are free to choose whatever clothing they feel suitable for prevailing weather conditions. They must provide their own clothing and arrange to have dry clothing at the various change-over areas and at the end of the event. There are changing cabins and showers at Unser Frau, in Kurzras and at the Grawand. The event organisers will provide drinks along the route and there will be a Pasta Party for all participants at Kurzras at 11.30am.
• For athletes of single competition only the organizer provides logistics for cloth and sports equipment.
• No-one, managers nor team mates, are allowed to help athletes when they arrive at hand-over areas. They may, however, give food-and-drink to athletes along the route.
• Accompanying vehicles are not allowed to follow the athletes during the event itself because of safety and organisational problems.
• We would remind athletes that it is extremely ill-advised to take part in any event shortly after having been ill or having had a high temperature or any other kind of medical condition. Participants must respect our strict anti doping rules and take full responsibility for themselves, their health and their own safety.

3) Failure to respect these rules and regulations will lead to automatic disqualification:
• The use of any material whatsoever which is not permitted by the event organisers (please see paragraph regarding material etc.)
• Athletes must not leave the marked route or take shortcuts.
• Athletes must not hand their start number to others.
• Athletes must not accept any outside help whatsoever or use unacceptable technical aids.
• Athletes must not do anything to hinder or block other participants.
• Athletes must behave fairly and respect current safety rules and regulations at all times.
• The event organisers and medical staff may disqualify a participant at any time if worried about the said person's health or physical condition.
• Athletes who fail to arrive at the hand-over point at Kurzras and the finishing line at Grawand within the time stipulated will be disqualified (please see info. regarding route and times).
Athletes who fail to finish the event within the maximum time allowed will be disqualified and the organisers cannot guarantee food-and-drink, sanitary and other services etc. for late-comers.
We expect fair play and good behaviour from everyone involved at all times.

4) Athletes who withdraw from the event
• Athletes who decide to withdraw from the event must inform staff of their decision at the next hand-over point and must also inform the event organisers.

5) Protests and complaints
Any complaint or protest regarding the event must be made in written form and on payment of a sum of 100 Euro to the event organisers at Kurzras within 30 minutes after the winners' names have been announced. All relative decisions will be taken and announced within one hour after the complaint has been received. Should the complaint be seen as valid, the 100.Euro deposit will be refunded.

D) THE EVENT ORGANISERS GUARANTEE THAT:
All participants who register for the event and pay the enrolment fee will be guaranteed the following
• info. service regarding accommodation, full details of route (time-plan etc….)
• starter pack with start number, route map etc.
• clothes changing facilities and showers at the Kurzras indoor swimming pool and the Naturns Adventure Pool - please remember to show staff your event start card!
• services along the route - water, tea, electrolyte drinks plus light food-and-drinks at the Pasta Party at Kurzras at 11.30 at the end of the event
• service and help from event staff along the route
• medical assistance along the route, at Unser Frau and at Kurzras throughout the event. Please note: Emergency number: 118
• free return cable-car tickets for individual athletes and their helpers- three free tickets for team members.
• prize money paid in Euro - please see special info. sheet
• news of results at end of event and via Internet
• special event entertainment programme

E) THE ORGANISERS RESERVE THE RIGHT TO:
• Annul and/or refuse to accept incorrectly filled-in enrolment forms
• issue special invitations
• increase or decrease the number of participants taking part in the event (notice of such changes will be given in good time)
• change or adapt event rules and regulations (athletes will be notified of such changes in good time)
• change team lists (assign top athletes to other teams etc.) after previous consultation with participants involved
• change times and other technical details should conditions make this necessary
• change, adapt or shorten the route or cancel the event itself in the event of adverse weather conditions or due to other reasonable factors which may put the safety of the athletes involved at risk.

2) RESPONSIBILITY
The event organisers cannot be held responsible for any accidents, damage or injury whatsoever caused to or by the athletes, their managers, staff etc. their possessions, equipment or spectators during the event in question. All participants should have adequate insurance cover for the event.
The organisers take no responsibility for athletes' lost or damaged clothing, equipment etc.
Athletes automatically give their approval and acceptance of these conditions on payment of their enrolment fee.
Everyone involved participates in the said event at his or her own risk.

3) PRIVACY LAWS REGARDING PERSONAL INFORMATION ETC:
All participants herewith agree that information about their personal details can be used and published by the event organisers, both here and in other countries, in so far as deemed necessary and regarding the event in question. It is not necessary for athletes to have or give special permission for photos, interviews and such.

PARTICIPANTS WHO ENROL FOR THIS EVENT AUTOMATICALLY ACCEPT
AND AGREE TO RESPECT THE RULES AND REGULATIONS OF THE SAME.
